LadderShack Definitions and Terminology
To get the most out of the LadderShack.com website, it is important to be able to reference some terminology used on this website.

Definitions
  • Account Creation/Registration
    User registers in a ladder and their account is created, they are now ready to use the ladder.

  • Challengee
    The competitor who is sent the challenge from the Challengee

  • Challenger
    The competitor which initiates the challenge.

  • Colour Scheme
    Each ladder has it's own colour scheme configured. This includes background, foreground, text and link colours.

  • Competitor

  • Free Trial
    For a limited time all ladders at LadderShack start out with a free trial or no charge the usage. During the free trial all features are enabled to better empower the ladder users to make the decision of which package option to purchase.

  • Group Password
    Ladder Administrator during ladder creation specifies a password to be distributed to the members to authenticate themselves when adding themselves to the ladder. This password is to help keeping unwanted users out of your ladder.

  • Ladder Administrator :
    Person in charge of configuring ladder parameters, and performing tasks such as deleting or correcting already submitted games or user data.

  • Member
    An entry in the ladder, or a participant or a team of participants competing together against others. A member can be a single player, or a team, but either way one entry on the ladder. Member is also referred to as Competitor, Participant, or User.

  • Package Option
    There are 3 separate package options which may be purchased for a ladder. Each package option provides different functionality.

  • Password
    A word or phrase that is used together with a username to authenticate a user to a ladder. It is necessary for the user to keep the password secret and not subject to discovery by anyone - this includes not writing it done.

  • Participant
    See Member

  • Predicted Match
    The winner of the match was also the leader before the match started, and in all ladder rankings will also be the leader after the match has been completed and been submitted.

  • Ranked By
    Each ladder needs to have one statistic by which it will rank it's users by and this is called Ranked By.

  • Ranking Algorithm
    If a ladder's Ranked By is set to Points then the Ranking Algorithm is used in calculating the points.

  • Ranked By
    The column configured by the Ladder Administrator to rank the competitors by.

  • Singles Ladder
    One person for each entry or rung on a ladder.

  • Team Ladder
    Two or more persons for each entry or rung in a ladder. It is left up to the persons in the team to designate who will enter the match results of games won.

  • Upset Match
    The winner of the match was NOT the leader before the match started (aka the underdog). Depending on the algorithm and how many points are gained the winner of the match may or may not overtake the loser of the match in terms of positioning.
